San Nazzaro set for a weekend of scorching hot action

The UIM 2024 F2 World Championship this weekend heads to San Nazzaro, Italy for the fourth round of the World championship campaign. Eleven countries will be represented as twenty top powerboat drivers fight it out at the Grand Prix of Italy.

The Championship welcomes another two returning drivers to this weekends action as Italy’s Luca Fornasarig returns to action following a four-year absence along with Norway’s Frode Sundsdal who has also been missing on the water since 2019. Both drivers will be looking to prove their pace amongst an extremely competitive field of racers.

So far this season every Grand Prix Podium has featured different drivers and just four points separates the top three boats at the midway point of the season.

Championship leader Edgaras Riabko of Lithuania will cautiously head into this weekend’s action with such a slender lead in the championship and heading to the testing waters of Abu Dhabi Powerboat Racing team he will know that on false move will see Rashed Al Qemzi will capitalise on any error or hesitation to reclaim the championship lead.

One for both the drivers to watch out for is Sweden’s Mathilda Wiberg who has been going from strength to strength this season and following her first Grand Prix win in Klaipeda will be looking for a repeat performance on the River Po.

Another driver looking to use the local water to his advantage in Italy’s David Del Pin who made a come back to the championship this year and is currently sitting in ninth in the World Championship table despite missing the last round in Klaipeda. A fifth-place finish in Brindisi and sixth in the Grand Prix of Norway sees the Italian driver up there with the front runners and searching for podium silverware.

Over the course of the weekend the drivers will compete in Free Practice, Qualifying and the multi-lap Grand Prix Race to determine who will claim the podium Top Spot of the Grand Prix of Italy.

Organiser Ezio Cremona said, “It is great to welcome the UIM F2 2024 World Championship to San Nazzaro this weekend. With the largest fleet of drivers entered so far, the action is shaping up to be intense as the championship draws to a close. Accompanied by the European F250 Championship, the races promise to be fantastic for fans from Italy and beyond.”

He continued “We are also pleased as organisers to announce that San Nazzaro will host the UIM F2 World Championship for another two years.”

With nothing separating the Championship leaders the action like the weather is set to be scorching both on and off the water.
