Daniel Segenmarki is back in business

When people saw the wreckage of Daniel Segenmark’s Moore hull being lifted from the water at the Finnish F2 Grand Prix, many thought that would put and end to the Swedish drivers exploits in this years UIM F2 World Championship but that is just not the case as he’s back racing at the Campione Grand Prix.

He remembers very clearly the sequence of events which took place on the first lap of the opening round in this year’s World Championship. “There was a little bit of confusion when the boats had come to the dock following the parade lap” said Segenmark. “Uvis Slakteris had developed a steering fault and drop out just before the start. That meant I was the first boat to head for the second demarcation buoy in the start shoot. I made a really bad start and Bimba Sjoholm shot off directly in front of me. When I finally got going I soon caught her spray and that blew me over right in front of the Russian driver who had no way of avoiding me.”

Fortunately for Segenmark the Moore’s safety cell held firm and he was able to walk away unhurt. “I’m no expert in building boats, so I spoke to David Moore and he is coming up to Sweden to inspect the damage boat and that’s really all I can say at the moment” he said.

This weekend he will be racing Erik Stark’s spare F1 hull. “He was kind enough to rent it to me for this weekend’s race. I tested it back in Sweden and I will also be spending a great deal of time getting to grips with it during tomorrows ‘free practice’. Just getting here has been a challenge with the race truck over heating; it was like having our own mobile sauna, so my goal now will be just to get to the finish line on Sunday.”
