Official Race Report – Round 4 Grand Prix of Portugal

The fourth round of the 2025 UIM F2 World Championship was concluded on the waters of the Douro River in Peso da Régua, Portugal. What began as a tense wait for calmer weather turned into an exciting 45-lap contest that has set the stage for a thrilling championship finale.

Just before the race, the wind picked up and created challenging water conditions. Race officials had to postpone the start and switch to a rolling-start procedure to ensure the safety of competitors.

When the green flag finally waved, Giacomo Sacchi converted his pole position into a commanding lead, maintaining control throughout the race to secure a decisive victory. Behind him, Hilmer Wiberg launched an impressive charge from fourth on the grid, moving immediately into second place and applying constant pressure on Sacchi.

Close behind, Mathilda Wiberg and Edgaras Riabko engaged in a captivating duel, repeatedly challenging for position and thrilling spectators with wheel-to-wheel exchanges. The top four boats often ran within striking distance of one another, showcasing both skill and composure in the gusty conditions.

Unfortunately, the race was not without incident. Tino Lehto and Mette Bjerknæs were forced to retire on Lap 10 following a minor collision, though both drivers emerged unhurt.
