Qualifying day at the UIM F2 World Championship Round 4 in Peso da Régua, Portugal, has concluded, and all eyes now turn to today’s Grand Prix, where the winner will soon be decided.
Saturday’s free practice saw dramatic moments as Norway’s Andre Solvang flipped after catching the wind, while Abu Dhabi Team driver Salem Al Yafei had some damage to a sponson. Thanks to determined efforts from both teams, the boats were repaired in time to race, though neither driver was able to take part in qualifying. The free practice ended with strong pace from Duarte Benavente on his home waters, followed by Giacomo Sacchi and Matthew Palfreyman, who later suffered a flip at the start of qualifying after showing impressive speed in practice.
The qualifying session itself was highly competitive, with several drivers struggling to find balance, but it was Sacchi who proved unbeatable, setting the fastest lap of 41.920.
On her final lap of Q3, Mathilda Wiberg secured second position, while Rashed Al Qemzi claimed third despite a near flip in the closing minutes that caused minor damage to his gearbox and propeller, both of which have since been repaired.
The stage is now set for the Grand Prix, which begins at 15:45 (local time), with live broadcast ( https://www.facebook.com/)
