It’s been three years since Simone Schuft last raced in the UIM F2 World Championship, back then she ran as team-mate to the Austrian driver Rupp Temper.
“Its hot here” said the German driver, “but it will be even hotter in the water tomorrow because we have a huge number of talented drivers racing here this weekend” she said.
Schuft spent time away from the World Championship to allow her to concentrate on the World Circuit Endurance series, with races in Rouen, France and Augustow in Poland, resulting in her taking a silver medal in 2014.
Whilst attending last years Campione GP, she was introduced to Fabrizio Bocca, who had a vacant seat in his Rainbow Racing Team. “He had a spare F2 boat and I wanted to get back into the World Championship, so we found a solution to get that boat back on the water,” said Schuft.
Bocca, the 1992 UIM F1 World Champion, has been putting her through a rigorous training plan, which has meant that Schuft has been spending a lot of time driving between her home near Dusseldorf and Rainbow Racing headquarters in Casale Monferrato as she gets to grips with the team’s DAC hull.
“I’m extremely lucky because Fabrizio has so much experience in racing circuit boats, which he is eager to share with me. Hopefully I can repay him at what is effectively his home Grand Prix with a top ten finish.”
