The first round of the UIM F2 World Championship wrapped up this weekend in Brindisi with extreme heat and unpredictable weather.
Saturday’s sessions were mostly canceled due to unsafe conditions, with only a free practice taking place. Sunday was a packed day, starting with qualifying, where most drivers managed to complete their laps safely. Unfortunately, Sam Whittle’s session ended early after he hit some wave at the back strait of the cource and coused then airbag system to go off.
The race itself was held in the afternoon under a rolling start format due to the rough waters. Drivers had to complete 30 laps. Hilmer Wiberg had a strong start, jumping from 5th into the top 3, but it was Matthew Palfreyman who dominated the race from start to finish. Peter Morin held on to 2nd place from pole position.
Sadly, the race didn’t end without drama—Mansoor Al Mansoori flipped while trying to overtake Giacomo Sacchi for 12th position.
What a weekend! Looking forward to the next round…
